The Poetics of Space: Long Pose Figure Drawing
September 9 - October 29 // 1:00 - 4:00
In this course students will take their knowledge to the next level by developing strategies for the long-pose: how to start, develop and finish a figure drawing. Students will learn fundamental and advanced concepts of anatomy used to “lock-in” to a structural awareness of the figure so as to understand, choose and develop a tactile form. This will be balanced with constant reinforcement of tone and pictorial idea to take their figures into the picture plane to inhabit a viable space and atmosphere. Art history will be relied on heavily to discuss the ideas of form, space and pictorial intent.
The Poetics of Space: Long Pose Figure Painting
September 6 - October 25 // 10:00 - 1:30
In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of portrait painting in oil. For beginners and advanced students alike, the class will focus on raped sketches, and progress to longer sittings over the 10 weeks, focusing on a direct and sculptural approach to painting with an emphasis on color and form. Gesture likeness, mass, structure, and basic anatomy will be covered.
Private Lessons: cast, still life, and bargue
Wednesday and Friday mornings
Private lessons are hosted at my home studio in Denver and limited to two students per session. Private lessons are a great way to fast track your progress with individually tailored lesson plans and attention. We sit down and discuss your goals and needs and construct a long term study plan to get you to where you want to go.
