Color Study with the Figure: an Incamminati Approach

June 4 - July 9 // 9:00 - 12:00 at the Art Student's League of Denver

In this workshop, students will be introduced to the Studio Incamminati approach to learning color as developed by Nelson Shanks from his studies under Henry Hensche. By painting under a variety of different light conditions (artificial, colored gels, natural light) and doing rapid color scanning exercises, students will begin to hone their skills in seeing color as a series of relationships. Students will also learn to differentiate between the local color of model, and the color of the light, so that ultimately the subject of the painting becomes the light itself.

Portrait Painting Fundamentals

March 19 - June 4th // 9:00-12:00 at the Park Hill Art Club

In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of portrait painting in oil. For beginners and advanced students alike, the class will focus on raped sketches, and progress to longer sittings over the 10 weeks, focusing on a direct and sculptural approach to painting with an emphasis on color and form. Gesture likeness, mass, structure, and basic anatomy will be covered.

Figure Painting Fundamentals

April 9 - May 14 // 1:00 - 4:00 at the Art Student's League of Denver

In this introductory workshop, novices and advanced students alike are invited to learn and revisit the fundamentals of painting the human figure. Students will learn about gesture, shape, proportion, relative value, and color. Learning to work the whole from general to specific, students will develop the groundwork for a strong skill set towards realistically depicting the nude. This will be a bootcamp approach towards learning the importance of the start in a bold, sculptural and direct approach to painting. This workshop uses oil paints only.Click on the image below for class description, materials, and registration

Bargue Drawing: Classical Drawing Fundamentals
